About Us

Brown's Food Center serving groceries to the Hackberry and Lake Charles communities in Louisiana.

Our History

Serving Hackberry and Lake Charles Since 1978.

A Family Tradition of Affordable Groceries.

Brown’s Food Center is more than just a grocery store; we’re a family-owned business deeply rooted in the heart of Hackberry and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Founded in 1978 by Jim and Janie Brown, we’ve been committed to providing our communities with affordable, high-quality groceries for over four decades.

What began as a small 3,600-square-foot store in Hackberry quickly expanded to meet the growing needs of our community. By 1983, we had transformed into a full-service supermarket. Our dedication to serving the region led to the opening of Brown’s Market and Deli in Cameron, Louisiana, in 1991, followed by Cam Mart Shell in 2000.

In 2005, we opened Brown’s Neighborhood Market in Lake Charles, bringing our commitment to quality and affordability to a new community. Unfortunately, Hurricane Rita devastated our Cameron Parish locations and caused significant damage to our Lake Charles store. With unwavering determination, we rebuilt, relocating Brown’s Neighborhood Market to Grand Lake in 2007.

Just as we were recovering, Hurricane Ike struck in 2008, flooding Brown’s Food Center in Hackberry. Thanks to the incredible support of our employees and community, we were able to reopen our doors that same year.

Today, the Brown family legacy continues with the next generation at the helm. Jim and Janie’s children, Jamie, Chris, and Brian, manage Brown’s Food Center, while Pat and Angela’s children, Patrick, Amaris, and Marissa, oversee Brown’s Neighborhood Market.

We’re proud members of Associated Grocers and very proud to be your neighborhood grocery store, offering fresh produce, quality meats, and everyday essentials at prices that fit your budget. Visit one of our locations today and experience the Brown’s Markets difference.
